Is the 2020 Acura NSX supercar WORTHY or just OVERPRICED?

hey guys what's up it's joe ready from
ratey's rides
i'm in my favorite undisclosed location
and there's a very good reason for that
we have this super sexy 2020
acura nsx before we get into this car
let's talk a little bit of history about
acura and the nsx so
acura has been around since 1986 it's
the premium brand
of honda and what's fascinating is if
you go to other parts of the world
this car is actually known as a honda
nsx
the nsx first hit the streets back in
1990 if you could believe that
that early generation was about being
really
ultra light not about a bunch of
horsepower but really in the agility now
this color that you see on this 2020 nsx
is really the big talking point for
2020. it's called
indy yellow obviously named after
indianapolis motor speedway
this is the first time that this color
has made a return a yellow tinge
has made a return to the nsx you would
have to go all the way back to 1997
to 2003. it was called spa yellow
actually named after another very famous
racetrack over in belgium
one thing is for certain in 2015 when
this new generation
came out you had a big debate a lot of
people
were reminiscing about the good old days
and the original nsx
this one a little bit different well to
be honest with you
a lot different because what you're
going to have is this is a
hybrid sports car what that means is we
have electric motors up front
and a twin turbo v6 outback
the one thing is for certain though
design
performance is definitely going to be
there and acura obviously bringing
a lot of that wonderful engineering
which is going to make this car
perform like none other so let's go
ahead let's dive into this 2020 acura
nsx
i want to point out some things that
have changed since 2015
but also i want to answer this question
is the nsx
super car worthy so let's go ahead and
dive in right off the bat
that indie yellow fits this car to a t
if you were to ask me joe
if you were going to get an nsx what
color would you buy definitely
getting this color you could see the
amount of metal flake in it
really sparkles so nicely it's like a
sparkly banana
i love it headlight housing on the nsx
they go
super super slim i love how slim they
are full
led headlights turn signals and daytime
running lamps
and just the way that it kind of
integrates into the side of the front
fascia and goes into the fender
absolutely stunning we drop down you
have
massive air intakes on both corners they
are fully functional
i think the only reason why i'm going to
issue a zonk on these is that i wish it
was a nice
wire mesh rather than the plastic but
it does look really good i love the
design of the grille opening and the
fact that it's fully functional
two thumbs up for me down below you're
gonna see the first part this
vehicle is basically fully optioned this
nsx one of those
options is the carbon fiber package
you'll see the front splitter extension
full carbon fiber that's going to give
us extra downforce
and it's going to help force feed more
air into these coolers now
as we come across the center section one
of the things i liked about
this generation of the nsx is how it
kind of comes to a point
and what's nice is you're going to get
this large open area
of course below this cover we're going
to have our radiator
and we're gonna have our full suspension
rack and pinion all that good stuff
there is no frunk so this is not a trunk
area
but you are gonna get maximum airflow
love the design the way they kind of
mimic the design from the corner vents
into the center area
going up onto the hood you can see that
iconic acura emblem and the way that the
hood just slopes down
so aerodynamic so distinct the look of
this car
it doesn't look like anything else out
there nice rise to the center
and then you have these two body lines
that kind of curve this is what i was
telling you about you see this wire mesh
that they put on these heat extractors
this is what i wish they would have put
out the front now what the whole purpose
is
is that you have this radiators right
you have these radiators here
all this cold air is going to come in
we're going to drag that hot air out
have somewhere for that hot air to go
out
and then just the flow of that fender
just ah man i just want to rub my hands
all over now coming around the bend
what do we have wheel and tire set up
now this one has
some more options besides the carbon
fiber package this one has the optional
wheels these are gunmetal gray
beautiful forged aluminum forged
aluminum is going to be stronger than
cast aluminum
and then behind the wheels look at the
size of those rotors now when you buy
this car you actually have to go down to
the dmv
and get a ufo permit because those
rotors are as big as flying saucers
15 inches in diameter carbon ceramic
what that means is
you're going to get the same ultimate
braking feel
feedback and capability every single
turn
if you're going to track your nsx that's
like a necessity
going back over here i want to point out
how they're two piece you have your
aluminum hat
that bolts to the carbon ceramic rotor
that's going to help with dissipating
heat
massive huge brembo calipers with the
nsx badge is going to make sure that
you stop on a dime and give everybody
change
one thing i also want to point out up
front we have a 19 inch wheel so that's
19 inches in diameter
and it's a little skinnier of a wheel
and tire setup so
this is a 245 35 series so 245 on the
width
35 series sidewall 19s up front 20s out
back and i promise you the 20s are wider
this nsx what kind of changed it all
from the previous generation
underneath both of these fender covers
we have
electric motors so this has all-wheel
drive that's going to keep you
planted to the ground now for 2019 just
last year they made some changes
not only did they revise the front nose
but they revised
the suspension bits they gave it stiffer
anti-roll bars they actually even
stiffened
the hubs at all four corners this car
around the zooka race track over in
japan two seconds faster a lap
than the 2015 s6 those are the changes
you're getting
with this evolution they did the
revolution revolution happened in 2015
now they're evolving it i love in the
fender that functional
side vent there even the way they did
the side mirrors
sculpted so perfectly really going into
the roof now here's the bigger piece of
the carbon fiber package you get a
carbon fiber roof
this is going to cut weight lower our
center of gravity
and stiffen up the whole chassis the
body lines are to die for
the way you have the body lines around
the
functional air vent here and they go
into the door and
rise up and then down below look at that
side sill extension
that is carbon fiber as well this is all
part of that carbon fiber
package the way it kind of flares out to
the back
and then one of my favorite parts on
this car like aesthetics
is going to be this body line that runs
along the door goes
into our side inner cooler openings here
and then into the rear fender the way it
kind of just bends over
but these massive openings that have the
wire mesh like i
like i really like are going to
force-feed air into those intercoolers
you can actually see them in there
remember this is a twin turbo v6 outback
you even have a flying buttress this air
flows through
everything is so aerodynamically
efficient if you're wondering who the
heck designed this
it actually was a designer here in the
united states that came up with this
design and
the nsx is hand assembled here in the
united states actually in ohio
at the back end of the business this is
the 20 inch so up front you had 19 inch
20 inch wheel beautiful another thing
they made a change you see how it says
sport contact six this is a continental
sport contact six tire this was a change
in 2019
you're going to get more grip more stick
which gives you
better confidence faster lap times but
even out back you're going to get that
massive rear rotor carbon ceramic
a little bit smaller brake caliper but
still quite massive
because of weight transferring forward
under braking that's why we go with a
little bit smaller brake caliper but
nothing to be concerned about fender
though
that ben look at the way it flows and
then it comes right to
this massive deck lid spoiler full
carbon fiber
this is part of that package this
package is worth getting because this
carbon fiber is beautiful
going to give you the downforce to keep
this thing stuck
look at the way the rear engine hatch
all the body lines
spot on the money totally surrounded
carbon fiber
we drop down and we have more sexiness
like i was telling you you have the
point up front you have the point out
back
the way acura designed it designs it
spot on the money
full led lighting led turn signals
reverse lights
you have more of that open air
flowing vents out back to dissipate the
heat all across where the license plate
is
and then this one the cherry on top of
the carbon fiber cake
look at that diffuser massive rear
diffuser it looks like it's right off of
the acura nsx race car that's another
thing that i love about acrid not only
do they build these for the road
they want to go up against the best and
beat the best on the racetracks
where they race this car is the imsa
weathertech series they actually won the
manufacturer's championship for 2019
and the drivers championship in the gtd
class
and then that exhaust opening the way
they did the exhaust opening is spot on
the money
you have the trim around it and then you
have the individual pipes
this is all for aerodynamic efficiency
to suck this car
to the ground but if you're ready i'm
ready let's pop this rear hatch
and see the true heart of the nsx all
right guys time to check out the heart
of the nsx
you pop the back you lift it up there
she is surrounded by
carbon fiber that is that 3.5 liter
twin turbo v6 that is what's powering
the rear wheels
remember you have two electric motors
powering the front wheels
this is all mated to a 9-speed dct
transmission 573 horsepower
476 pound-feet of torque 0-60
2.8 seconds top speed 191 miles an hour
the nsx weighs 3878 pounds
and guess what when it comes to mpgs
you're not going to find any other
supercar
producing 21 in the city 22
on the highway this back area is your
only
cargo area so if you like hard numbers
you're looking at
a tick under four cubic feet of space
it's actually 3.9 cubic feet of space
but that's not what this car is about
it's not about hauling the mail anywhere
it's about hauling butt i want to show
you a little snippet of what's
underneath
the front hood area i just kind of like
to see these things because
i'm a car guy and it's really cool to
kind of show off
what is going on engineering wise
so you could actually see how everything
is bolted
to the chassis this whole front subframe
is bolted to the chassis here
you got your suspension of course
adapted suspension for the different
modes and we're going to get all into
that once we get to the interior
here is your radiator you got your twin
fans
your rack very very cool to see this
kind of and then you can see how it's
bolted everything
the subframe is bolted to the chassis up
there very nicely done
smart engineering this thing turns
faster lap times than any
nsx but if you're ready i'm ready let's
get to that interior
and see what the nsx is bringing to the
[Music]
table
[Music]
[Music]
all right guys we're inside the 2020
acura nsx i know you're at this point
where you're like joe
i'm starting to fall in love with this
car how much is it now remember
let's think about the competition you're
looking at the audi r8
you're looking at the mclaren 570 those
are going to be two
of the biggest competitors for this car
so
starting off msrp is 157 thousand
dollars
the way that this one is optioned it's
pretty much fully optioned
you're looking at 198 000 let's see what
you get for the money to the door panels
love what they did with the leather up
top the stitch work
the alcantara with that contrast
stitching is spot on the money
you get an els studio
nine speaker sound system if you notice
that the speaker cover they actually use
the same design
that the vents have on the exterior nice
touches like that
love the leather on the armrest little
bit of silver and a little bit of gloss
black
really just brings the whole door panel
alive now when you get to the dash
same story leather the stitch work this
beautiful silver trim
it looks stunning in here you have some
of that vent design
that they brought to the interior
alcantara on the glove box with the
contrast stitching
if you're wondering well joe what do we
have for infotainment system well first
off you have
more leather here's your start stop
button conveniently placed
this is a seven inch infotainment system
screen so there's our navigation
you do get a little tiny akra nsx as
your little
position point which is cute one of the
zonks though
there's no audio control knobs so
everything is done
through the touchscreen i personally
don't have a problem with it but i know
obviously it was a big enough issue that
on cars like the honda civic type r
they brought the knob back but here we
are in your menu screen
real easy to see super clear graphics
this i'm gonna be curious to see what
acura does when it comes to redesign
time as we drop down you do get your
dual climate controls now what's
interesting is that
you have your temperature control here
if you want to do
blower fan you hit climate and now you
have
the directionals and you can increase or
lower the blower fan speed so everything
like i said most of it is done
through this screen we keep dropping
down
this is one of my favorite parts here is
the dynamic mode
control knob there's actually four
separate modes i'm so glad that acura
kept it simple
instead of all these switches and you
got to do like a a secret knock to put
it into different modes especially track
mode
it's quite simple launch control is real
easy you put it in track mode
you hold down the brake you hold down
the throttle you're in launch mode
release the brake you're off like a
rocket it doesn't have to be complicated
you do have heated seats but no
ventilated seats that's a zonk at this
price point
i would like to see ventilated seats
beautiful though alcantara material
surrounding your transmission controls
now here's your transmission controls
this is going to control that
nine speed dct transmission i'm gonna go
ahead and put the car in reverse
to show you the camera angle obviously
you could position
that camera angle different ways you do
have your trajectory which is really
nice as well i'll put it back in the
park
you have an electric e-brake the silver
and the gloss black works well
here is our nsx key fob so it's your
standard accurate key fob but i like the
way at the bottom
they put the nsx name spin it around
there's your buttons on the back
you got a little tiny cubby here for
some jolly ranchers
and then another little cubby back here
this is where you're going to want to
put your atomic fireballs because this
car the performance is so hot you're
going to need
an atomic fireball to be sucking on love
this little lid you know why because
look at this you lift this up
you got a usb and a place to put your
phone
i guess if you were gonna zonk the
connectivity there's no
wireless charging there's no wireless
charging in the nsx
you do get the optional seats though
these are the full leather the stitch
work is great bolstering is wonderful
it really holds you perfectly it's oh it
reminds me of a of a catcher's mitt
catching a baseball you're the baseball
this is the mitt
the quality is downright just
unbelievable
tons of head room and speaking of head
room this one has the optional
full alcantara interior appointments
which is really really nice
and then of course you have your els
studio speaker right here in the middle
and then you can see through that clear
glass window at the heart
the trueheart that v6 twin turbocharged
engine but why don't you come on over
here to the business end
because this steering wheel the
thickness is perfect and there's a lot
more other goodies happening over here
come on over all right guys business
time the
area that counts in this nsx now you do
have two memory seat settings which is
really nice
and then here are your buttons to pop
the hatch and of course your fuel filler
door
down below you get a nice large dead
pedal
so important for supporting yourself
especially if you're going through the
twisty bits
i like the brushed aluminum that they
put on each of the pedals
and then of course seats just the right
amount of bolstering up top
could be a little bit higher down below
but you know what
really really good and another thing i
want to point out is that the foot box
you got plenty of room if you go into a
dodge viper if you go into any of the
ferrari products
you kind of have to drive change your
driving style
on how you're sitting because of how
cramped everything is here you got
plenty of room
steering wheel right out of an acura
race car this is the optional wheel
love the leather the carbon fiber is
absolutely stunning
you got your thumb wheel drive controls
real easy to get to
and then check out the size of these
paddles on the back of the steering
wheel perfectly placed and it's
important for them to be this size
because
there have been some times where i've
been going through certain turns that
the wheel is kind of turned a little
much and i'm able to get it no matter
where the steering wheel is now let me
show you
all about the dash there is our full
beautiful display there you could go and
toggle through different information
right in the center of the tank you got
your digital speedometer you got a
analog fuel gauge and an analog cooling
gauge
but you also have other information
there one thing i really want to
showcase are the driving modes so
right now we're in sport plus let me go
ahead and back it down i don't know if
you noticed right now we're in quiet
mode
this is actually ev mode it shows you
how things are changed
with the graph there and it's real
simple just to control
just a change and use that dynamic mode
control i turn
to the right we're in sport mode sport
plus
you can see the changes in your
powertrain how the all-wheel drive
behaves
suspension and the last one you have to
hold on
to the right and then now give it a few
seconds
now we're in track mode so in track mode
you could clearly see all of the things
that it's going to show you when it
comes to powertrain
your all-wheel drive all that good stuff
now is everything perfect in the land
of the business end of the nsx there are
a couple things i would change
that i'm gonna zonk it would be
wonderful to have shift lights
built into this top portion of the
steering wheel
one of the main reasons is that there's
no head-up display
and i guess that's going to be the other
zonk i wish there was some kind of
head-up
display or the shift lights personally i
prefer the shift lights
but if they had a head-up display that
would be great and to be honest with you
it's a compliment accurate because this
car
revs so fast you go through the rev
range so fast
that sometimes it goes too fast
that it would be nice if you had the
lights to let you know when to shift
because
everything is going so crazy in this
thing but if you're ready
i'm definitely ready let's take this
acura nsx
for a spin all right guys we're inside
the nsx
such an incredible experience just being
in this car
i do have it in track mode i want to
show off launch control and of course
we're gonna take it through
the twisty bits everything is just laid
out perfectly in here
visibility out the front is drop dead
gorgeous you see the indy yellow it's
just nuts
it really is so here we go you hold on
the break and throttle release and we're
up yeah
this thing is a rocket ship
oh my god wow
the brakes look at the feedback here
the balance of having a mid-engine
on the brakes
look at wow
[Music]
unbelievable
woohoo you get
going up to speed really quick
no issues with that that launch control
it's simple
you have it in track mode you hold down
the brake with your left foot
you hold down the throttle with your
right foot and then you just release
your left foot
off the brake it doesn't need to be
complicated with going into menus and
settings and switches and knobs
you pull a lever you spin a wheel i mean
acura did it right with the launch
control the feedback
i'm telling you right now you feel like
your hands
are holding on to each of the front
wheels
because the feedback you're receiving
into this wheel
is second to none having that twin turbo
v6
hearing the turbo spool up the sound is
glorious
just loud enough to make it interesting
but not too loud to where
it's gonna give you a headache or just
piss everybody off
i wish i had a head up display that is
one thing that i wish this car had and i
if it didn't have a head up display at
least like i showed you earlier in that
carbon fiber the top section of the
steering wheel
put some led lights some led formula one
style shift lights
that not only would look sexy but also
would allow you to just stay in tune
because this thing revs so fast
you got to be on your freaking a game
a plus plus plus plus game that's how
fast the revs just climb in this thing
the crazy thing in all this is at the
end of the day
the comfort in here is amazing these
seats they cradle you
just like a catcher's glove cradles that
baseball
every time he catches it and holds on to
it that's how you feel any seats
bolstering is great
and not too much to where you you feel
like you're getting clamped down on by a
vice grip
all right guys here we go launch control
engage release yeah
i love it
absolutely love it
[Music]
nice i love this car
get ready for the twisty stuff
there's the balance watch the balance
here we go that's the balance
wow wow wow wow
that's all i could say this thing is
freaking
intense all right guys one more time
here we go second gear on throttle
unbelievable unbelievable
unbelievable the feedback
the balance the the the calipers the
brakes
is this car perfect no there's no
perfect cars but
boy is it pretty damn close
so
god i love this car i love this
car i love this
car i love this car
i love this car i really do i really do
wow wow if you've been keeping track
of all the radius rise reviews
especially the performance cars and
human sample
this seems like joe's the most excited
this seems like joe's the most excited
i think i've never been more excited
driving
on a twisty road than in this car than i
have in other cars
even the ferrari f8 trabuto this thing
is unbelievable i love it
but we got to get back to our
undisclosed location
uh because i want to keep this car
forever uh but we will uh
see you in a split second all right guys
it's been a mind-blowing time
with this 2020 accurate nsx i definitely
got to thank
chris and the rest of the crew with
acura allowing radies rides
access to this supercar
that's what it truly is yes it's a
sports car but with this kind of
performance
it is a supercar is it different from
the first generation
of course it's not the original but that
doesn't make it a bad thing
what acura has done to this vehicle
really showcases a lot of their
technology engineering and definitely
what they could bring to the table
for driving comfort and for outright
performance
and you're getting decent mpg return
this car is definitely a very very
special car
and if you are looking for one of its
competitors whether it be the audi r8
or the mclaren 570 you definitely
have to take a look at this acronis x
first it may be the last choice and the
only choice that you make but if it's
cars like these that you want to keep
seeing on raiser rise leave a comment in
